Creative Movement at Home: Scarf & Ribbon Dancing
Exploring movement using music encourages the development of physical skills and channeling energy in a healthy way while nurturing your child’s creativity.
Suggested Materials
Bracelet or scrunchie
Straw , popsicle stick or papertowel tube
Scissors and tape
Light weight and colourful scarves
Ribbon or streamers
Movement Ideas
Tape or tie your ribbons/scarf onto your holder of choice.
Allow your child to choose their favourite colour combination.
You can move and dance indoors or outdoors.
Play their favourite songs, sing rhymes or introduce them to something new, e.g. classical music.
Play games using directional language. E.g.: “Put your scarves up high, put your scarves down low , shake them to and fro!“
Be sure to include free flow movement as well - where your child decides how they want to feel the rhythm.
Most importantly – Laugh together and have FUN!
