Creative Movement at Home: Scarf & Ribbon Dancing

Exploring movement using music encourages the development of physical skills and channeling energy in a healthy way while nurturing your child’s creativity.

Suggested Materials

  • Bracelet or scrunchie

  • Straw , popsicle stick or papertowel tube

  • Scissors and tape

  • Light weight and colourful scarves

  • Ribbon or streamers

Movement Ideas

  • Tape or tie your ribbons/scarf onto your holder of choice.

  • Allow your child to choose their favourite colour combination.

  • You can move and dance indoors or outdoors.

  • Play their favourite songs, sing rhymes or introduce them to something new, e.g. classical music.

  • Play games using directional language. E.g.: “Put your scarves up high, put your scarves down low , shake them to and fro!“

  • Be sure to include free flow movement as well - where your child decides how they want to feel the rhythm.

Most importantly – Laugh together and have FUN!
