Edible Slime

We tried out two different slime recipes to share with you. They are both made with ingredients that are edible and safe for children who like to put things in their mouths. We chose one that is doughy and can be shaped easily. The second doesn’t have a constant viscosity but is great for children who love messy play.

Chocolate Pudding Slime - Feels like playdough!

Chocolate Pudding Slime - Feels like playdough!

What you’ll need:

  • 1/4 cup chocolate pudding mix

  • 1 cup cornstarch

  • 1/3 cup very warm water

  • bowl

  • whisk

  • measuring cups

  • oil (optional)

Combine 1/4 cup of instant pudding mix and 1/2 cup cornstarch with a whisk. Break up the clumps. Stir in 1/3 cup of very warm water until you can no longer whisk the mixture. Then add another 1/2 cup cornstarch. Knead with your hands until smooth and fully mixed. We added about a tablespoon of oil at the end to loosen up the texture of the dough, but this step is optional.

These activities are great for your child’s fine motor skills and you can incorporate numerous loose parts with them to enhance your child’s interest and skill building.

Jell-o Slime - Oobleck

Jell-o Slime - Oobleck

What you’ll need:

  • 1 cup cornstarch

  • 1 package sugar-free Jell-o

  • 3/4 cup warm water

  • cookie sheet or tray

  • measuring cups

  • bowl

Combine the cornstarch and Jell-o powder together. Add 1/4 cup warm water and mix until you can’t stir anymore. Then stir in an additional 1/4 cup of water and mix. Start kneading in 1 Tbsp of water at a time until the mixture can stretch or droop a bit.

After we played with it for a bit, we put the bowl in the fridge for 30 minutes. When we took it out, it was a more solid and goopy consistency.
