WILD CHILD: Winter Tracking Fun
It’s been a snowy winter so far, so why not try following the tracks you find in the freshly fallen snow? Whether in your backyard or on a hike, fresh snow can make it easy to find trails even for the littlest explorers.
You don’t need any special equipment or knowledge, simply find some prints in the snow then try to find the next set. See how far you can follow them. Can you tell which way the animal was walking by looking for clues like toe prints? Where did the animal or person come from? Where are they going? You might surprise yourself and find the entrance to a burrow or an old deer bed.
If you want to identify the animal belonging to the track, check out these great resources for tracks you may see to help get you started.
