WILD CHILD Wintermission: Find Animal Tracks

Today's wintermission challenge is to find some tracks.

Tracks are marks left in the snow by people or animals that show us someone was here before us. Tracks can tell us the story of what happened in a place when no one was looking.

The easiest tracks to find are the shoe or boot prints of people walking in undisturbed snow. Can you follow where the person went? Where did they come from? You could even leave tracks for a friend to follow, and make it a game.

Try to find animal tracks. You might want to start near trees and bushes. Squirrels and rabbits like to play in the forest and in backyards, so there is a good chance you can find some if you look carefully.

Can you guess which track is which? Even if you can't tell the difference between the prints, if the track stops at the bottom of the tree you may be able to guess that it was a squirrel.
