From Mud Pies to Snow Cakes

A child shakes a bottle over a mixture of rocks, mud, and leaves framed by sticks.

At WILD CHILD we love to play and experiment with mud! Making mud pies is one of our favourite activities! But mud pies aren't an option when the ground is frozen and covered in snow! But that shouldn't stop little chefs from cooking outdoors!

Snow is the perfect ingredient for SNOW CAKES! The change in season and natural materials lend themselves nicely to expand children's imaginative play!

Here is a simple recipe for snow cakes:

You will need the following:

  • Snow

  • Nature treasures

  • Bowl or cake pan/mold

A gloved hand placing snow in a star-shaped cake pan.

1. The perfect snow cakes are packed with lots of snow! First, fill your cake pan or bowl with lots of snow! Then, pack the bowl or pan tightly with snow before turning it over!

2. Now, carefully turn it over like a sandcastle.

3. Carefully remove the bowl or cake pan.
