Friday Food Fun: Monster Mash Soup

A fun idea for a cold day is to bring our monster friends out to play. There are many healthy choices for our monster mash soup, and you can add almost anything in your pantry. Just use your imagination to create a delicious friend, they’ll BOO-st your energy!

You will need:

  • Your favorite type of soup (creamy types of soup work best but you can use any soup)

  • For the eyes you can use rice bowls, carrot slices, cucumber slices, beet slices, even cut out toast

  • For hair you can add shredded cheese shredded carrots or zucchini or pasta noodles

  • For mouth and fine details, we recommend seaweed or a thick sauce like ketchup

First start by asking a grown-up for help. You will need to prepare your soup first - it can be canned or homemade soup. Carefully set it on a bowl as it may be hot.

For eyes, start by making some rice balls, (just squeeze about a tablespoon of rice together. Sushi rice is great for this) or cut slices of carrots, cucumbers, or other sturdy vegetables you like.

Make the mouth and the iris of the eyes with seaweed (you can it into funny shapes with kitchen scissors.) You can also use a few drops of ketchup.

Add some hair with shredded cheese around the top of the bowl or use shredded zucchini, pasta noodles or shredded carrots.

Now your monster mash is a spooky meal ready to be enjoyed!
