WILD CHILD: I Spy Bloodroot
One of the early spring flowers you may see on your walks is bloodroot. It has a pretty white flower of seven or more petals and big green lobed leaves which stand mostly upright.
While the leaves do have considerable variation, it’s often easy to identify because it arrives in the spring before there are too many other plants around. Also a broken leaf of this plant has a redish-orange sap, which looks a little like blood.
While safe to handle, this plant is not considered edible.
