Wild Wednesday: Making Soup
On the weekend we took advantage of the beautiful sunshine and headed over to Westminster Ponds for a morning hike. We came across an area that was absolutely brimming with beautiful bright green algae so India decided to pop in the water to investigate. She wanted to know what all this green stuff was and why it was here. After chatting about the algae for a few minutes she declared that it was lunchtime and she would start cooking us up some soup. She mixed the algae around and around telling me that it was going to be a very healthy meal. She informed me that this “soup” was filled with kale, apples, spinach, grapes, and broccoli. Yum!
Watching this as a Mom was so much fun, but seeing it as an ECE is very exciting too. There is just so much Cognitive learning happening here! India was developing her observing and questioning skills as she noticed the algae and asked all about it. When she became our cook for lunch she was growing her representation skills. Lastly, as she thought about green ingredients that could be included in her soup, she was working on her classification skills. All this while sloshing around in the ponds, having a blast!
