WILD CHILD: Spring At Home Challenge

WILD CHILD: Spring At Home Challenge

Spring is here and so is the warmer weather. We have collected a few challenges to help you enjoy a few outdoor adventures while you are home. These can be as simple as 15 minutes in your yard, or you can use them as a spring board for a bigger adventure in a nearby natural space.

Find a special spot: whether it is a tree, a grassy patch near a bush or something completely unique to your family choose a spot that you can visit now and again over the coming months. Take time to explore your spot, and notice the wildlife that loves this spot. For older children, you can explain that it normally takes about 20 minutes for the animals to start playing again after something (like new people) disturbs them, and challenge them to sit and play quietly until they start to hear the birds singing again.

Take a ‘signs of spring’ walk: this is a great opportunity to walk and talk with your children and see the world through their eyes. It can be as simple as a walk around the block or you could collect treasures, or play’ What do you see?‘.

Read a book outside:  Choose your favourite book or grab a new one, and venture outside to read it. You could even make an adventure out of it and take snacks and a picnic blanket to your backyard.

Search for a birds nest: This time of year you can see all the old bird nests peaking through the empty tree branches. How many can you spot? If you are very lucky you may even find one on the ground after some wind.

Splash in a puddle: simply put on some rain boots and make a SPLASH!
