Wild Wednesday: Water long jump

India led us down a path we had never explored while at Meadowlily this weekend which was exciting for everyone. She spotted this little stream and immediately went down to investigate and splash around. This evolved into a water long-jump. She would race down the stoned section of the stream and try to jump all the way across. After a particularly big jump she looked at me and said “whoa, I’m a very good jumper! After many, many more jumps she made it to the other side! She celebrated by saying “I did it” and getting a few more jumps in before we moved on.

How many of our children are drawn to the water? It's nice to know that all this splashing around is fulled with learning fun! The physical act of jumping is developing India’s gross motor skills but more than that, I saw her identity formation and self-esteem really growing. India set a goal for herself and even before she met that goal, she was aware and proud of her jumping abilities. When she made that jump across the stream and celebrated she was demonstrating her positive attitudes towards learning. She left feeling confident and excited to take on the next adventure!
