WILD Wednesday: Hill Top Fun!
This past weekend we headed to Hill Top Trail which was exciting for all of us because we had never been there before. During our hike, we came across this beautiful wide-open space that really excited the kids. The snow was really interesting that day as it had a hard crust on top but was nice and fluffy underneath. India explored this snow by creating patterns with her footprints, making dinosaur tracks, hearts, and eventually spelling out her name. Wells figured out that he could break the top part of the snow into large pieces to be thrown. He was always trying to find a piece bigger than the last saying, “Whoa, it’s a big one!” This is not what we expected when we came to this trail, but it was such a wonderful surprise to us all!
Let's take a look at what's really going on here. When India took off into the snow to create her art, she was developing her cognitive domain, specifically her understanding of shapes. When she was writing out her name in this new and fun way, she was growing her literacy skills all the while developing her gross motor skills as she ran and jumped around. Wells was working on his gross motor skills as well as he was picking up and throwing the large slabs of snow. He was also growing his cognitive domain, specifically seriating as he determined if his current piece was as big as his last. What could be better than an unexpected adventure filled with so much learning fun!
